In its 41st year of history, the new bocad from Bochum was released in January with more updates than ever before. Qbitec was honored to contribute the point cloud streaming technology to the traditional CAD system. For the first time, point cloud data can now be displayed together with bocad CAD models.

At the bocad user meeting, the 2025 version was presented to 160 participants. The users' response to the new and expanded features was overwhelming. Marc, Joachim, Tilo, and Oli from Qbitec had the opportunity to engage in conversations with users and bocad developers in the unique setting of a beautifully illuminated wooden and brick hall.

Here is a quick point cloud snapshot from the Qbitec booth:

Being a surveyor himself, Marc was the perfect person to provide participants with deeper insights into laser scanning. Afterwards, Andreas Wilk from bocad demonstrated the new features:

The point clouds are deeply integrated into bocad. Users can intuitively and reliably compare the CAD design with the existing data: Does everything fit? Does my new design collide with essential elements of the existing structure?

The collaboration with the bocad software developers was also very warm and productive. Within just a few days, they successfully integrated our point cloud engine for testing. This gave the green light for a long-term partnership between Schuller & Company, the owner of bocad, and Qbitec. The final version of SmartPointCloud is truly impressive. We are excited that this marks the first proof of our second mission goal: “Seamless point clouds everywhere.”

PS: Interest in the solution is spreading: the plugin developer Buhren Consulting is looking to offer plugins for customized workflows around point clouds.
